Amber Smith

Amber Smith is a self-taught ceramist and printmaker based in Nelson, NZ.
Smith's distinctive artworks are adorned with native birds and Māori motifs to celebrate Te Reo Māori and Whakataukī (Māori proverbs) and waiata aroha (songs about the nature of love). A beautiful and unique way of honouring the taonga that is Te Reo Māori.
Smith is famous for her beautifully detailed, hand-built vessels & bowls, etched in Sgraffito; a long process form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting colour. Each ceramic piece is unique in form and design often including wise words to help promote the art of love, hope and self-worth.
