The Taxidermist's Wife #1 by Kirsty Gardiner.
Bone charms are magical items, usually made from whale bone. The Taxidermist's wife made these charms from clay representing the reincarnation of a sacred bird - the huia, symbolising rebirth, spring blossoms, and good luck. Painted with underglaze, glaze, gold lustre, and adorned with ephemera to convey their spiritual significance.
Press moulded and individually embellished with flowers, leaves, buttons, seed pods and the odd beetle.
Multi-fired low fire porcelain.
Wall installation of 7 birds.
630mm in diameter
