Gill is originally from the UK where she studied Furnishing Textile Design and Theatre Design. She has worked at various furnishing textile companies in London as a designer/colourist and then as a props maker for television, theatre and film.

She emigrated to NZ in 1996 and continued her career as a props maker at The Court Theatre, Christchurch and then in the Art Department of World of Wearable Art, Nelson.

Gill has entered WOW 18 times and won numerous awards, including the Supreme WOW award in 2016. Currently she is working from home combining her skills to create larger than life 'Faux Taxidermy' studies of insects and other natural wonders using textiles and embroidery.
