Sally Burton is back with a gorgeous new exhibition - 'unknown ancestors'. Inspired by her great grandfathers photo album full of images of unknown ancestors, Sally has invented her own stories about these people. Who were they? Where did they come from? Dressed in their colonial attire and placed in primordial landscapes, reminiscent of the shaped limestone of Takaka Hill.
Shadows of people appear in the landscapes representing small interventions of humanity on the land.
These paintings in Acrylic on tapa cloth and canvas.
