Yoko Imai

Yoko Imai was born in Japan and has lived in New Zealand since 2000. She learned how to crochet and knit from her mother and grandmother at around the age of 8 years old. Yoko’s imagery is inspired by New Zealand nature, flowers and colours which can be found in daily life here in Nelson, so her designs vary with the changing seasons. Yoko’s crochet process is unique due to her use of traditional embroidery threads and very thin needles which were handed down through her family. RED gallery is proud to stock a beautiful selection of Yoko's work.
